Amarillo Family Eyecare was founded by Dr. Mackenzie Weir in 2011, with the practice seeing its first patient on December 7 of that year. A proud Amarillo native, Dr. Weir was born in Oklahoma City and raised in Amarillo. She attended St. Andrew’s Episcopal School, Austin Middle School, and graduated from Tascosa High School in 2001. She considers it a true privilege to care for patients in the community she calls home.
Dr. Weir earned her Bachelor of Science in Molecular and Experimental Nutrition from Texas A&M University in 2005. A devoted Aggie, she and her husband remain enthusiastic supporters of their alma mater. After graduation, she returned to Amarillo to serve as District Director for Texas State Representative John Smithee. In that role, she worked closely with constituents and community leaders — an experience that deepened her appreciation for the people and organizations that make Amarillo special.
She went on to earn her Doctor of Optometry degree from Northeastern State University Oklahoma College of Optometry in 2010. NSUOCO is nationally recognized for its rigorous training and selective class size of just 26 students per year. Because Oklahoma allows one of the broadest scopes of optometric practice in the country, Dr. Weir received extensive training in the management of ocular disease and advanced clinical procedures. She is proud of her education and confident in her ability to manage a wide range of visual and medical eye conditions.
Dr. Weir has continued to expand her expertise through advanced training in Vision Therapy, earning certifications through the Sanet Seminar Series and Vision Therapy Mastery. While she practices to the full scope allowed under Texas law and cares for patients of all ages, her true passion is pediatric optometry. She has a special heart for caring for children and helping them build strong visual foundations for life.
Outside the office, Dr. Weir is married to Patrick Weir, a board-certified attorney and shareholder at McCarn, Weir & Sherwood. They have two children, Shelton Benjamin and Zenna Beth, who keep life joyful — and especially busy during the Christmas season. Family time is her greatest priority.
Dr. Weir is deeply involved in the Amarillo community. She has served on the Advisory Council for Panhandle PBS, the Amarillo Area Foundation’s Catalyst Grant Program Committee, and the board of Amarillo Montessori Academy. She is a member of BSA Women’s Circle, Pinnacle Club, Junior League of Amarillo, and First Presbyterian Church.
She also shares her home — and occasionally her office — with her beloved Labrador retrievers, Bogie and Iris.

His professional interests include specialty contact lenses for patients with complex anterior segment conditions and myopia management to help slow the progression of nearsightedness in children.
Dr. Joyce is excited to be back home in the Amarillo area, serving the community that helped shape him.
He married his high school sweetheart, Rylee, a sonographer in Amarillo. In 2024, they welcomed their first son, Sammy.
